Gary: So that they can call you on the day of your reservation to confirm the reservation.
Eliz: What if my plans change? What if I have to change or cancel the reservation?

In Mr. Epstein’s conversation, we heard him making a reservation at the Jackson Grill.
He begins with a request, using the expression “I’d like...”

Epstein: Yes, I’d like to make a reservation for tomorrow at 12:00.
Gary: The woman at the restaurant makes an apology, beginning with “I’m sorry, but...”
Woman: I’m sorry, but I don’t have a table at 12:00.

Gary: She then asks for confirmation, using the expression “How would that be?”

Woman: How would that be?
Epstein: That would be just fine.

Gary: He then requests a quiet table, using the expression “Could we...?”

Epstein: Could we have a quiet table, if possible?
Epstein: We’ll be discussing business.
Woman: I’m sure we can arrange that.

Gary: Finally, the woman confirms the reservation, by repeating back the information.
